Saturday, March 7

The thirtieth annual Missouri State Sacred Harp Singing Convention was called to order at 9:30 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ by chair Wendy Hofmann, leading the song on page 148. Then, Presley Barker offered the opening prayer. Convention officers were: Chair - Wendy Hofmann; Secretary - Dave Ressler; Arranging Committee - Presley Barker and Dan Gray; Finance Committee - Roberta Strauss; Memorial Committee - Jan Ketelle and Terry Hogg. Songs were called from the 1991 edition of The Sacred Harp and The Missouri Harmony 2005.

Jan Ketelle opened the Memorial Lesson, then read the list of the sick and shut-in. She described the Sacred Harp singing community as a quilt, every singing slightly different but all bound together in love. Those listed were from Alabama: Joan Aldridge, Daphene Causey; from Arkansas: Beau Caldwell; from Illinois: Karen Hojnacki, Berkley Moore; from Indiana: Amy Devocelle; from Michigan: Bill Beverly, Bill Wyndom; from Ohio: Loraine Bayer, Jim Herr; from Wisconsin: Johanna Fabke, Bob Scorgie, Julia Vea. Jan led the class in singing 340.

Terry Hogg then read the list of those deceased since the last convention. He described the life of Charlie Davidson as a life of teaching by example and living each moment fully. The Chair closed the morning singing and the class sang Table Hymn 164 (MH) as the blessing for lunch.
